Chancellor Meets Local Entrepreneur
On a recent visit to West Yorkshire, Chancellor Gordon Brown took the opportunity to meet a number of our local entrepreneurs and to discuss the economy and the issues facing small businesses.
ICW Modular Glazing Systems , based in Horbury, hosted the visit, where the Chancellor was shown a new and innovative window system developed by the company, which opens just by touching the window pane.
ICW's managing director, Margaret Wood has recently been named joint second at the national finals for the British Female Inventor of the Year Award.
She demonstrated the product for Gordon Brown and explained how the Ergonomic Hopper Window System will be a great help to the elderly and the disabled.
Following a tour of the manufacturing operation, Mr Brown joined other invited businesses and spoke on a range of relevant issues.
He commented:
"We want to see more entrepreneurs, more business start-ups, more businesses growing. We want to be there to help them grow, export and flourish."
Mr Brown agreed that small businesses have had a tough time dealing with the banks, adding that although only the four major banks offer business banking at present, this will change following the recent competition commission.
He pledged support for manufacturing innovation, and commended the West Yorkshire Enterprise Agency - who helped co-ordinate the visit - for the help and support they provide for budding entrepreneurs and those starting and running small businesses. |
