ISD Solutions Design, Build & Install Temperature Controlled Environments For Major UK Retailers

Challenge

Keeping cold drinks cold. Their challenge was to design, build and install a series of glazed units for the retail of chilled drinks that would sit within existing stores. The retail chain was keen to maximise the upcoming summer bbq season and also become established as a premium retailer of chilled drinks.

After four years of recession the project had been on hold but the retailer was now keen to proceed and wanted delivery and installation quickly without compromising on quality. They were keen to get the first units up and running in time for the busy Easter period to maximise the bbq period and ongoing summer sales. Part of the problem was that the glass had to be toughened to withstand potential for consumers bumping into it causing unsightly or even permanent damage. Facing a high quality remit, tight deadline and a budget to work within ISD Solutions had to be able to rely on their window supplier for manufacturing quality and reliability.

ICW (UK) Ltd has earned a reputation within the supply chain of being able to interpret sophisticated design remits and develop workable, cost conscious solutions to tight deadlines.

ICW Solution

ICW recognised the priority for the retailer was consistent temperature in a unit that would be constantly opening and closing. It would be in an area of heavy consumer traffic, with individuals knocking into it, at the same time product and promotions had to be clearly visible. Ultimately the retail chain wanted increased sales and profit from their investment.

The ICW (UK) Design Team created a bespoke robust unit to BSI standard that could display the chilled beers and wines to their best to boost retail sales during the peak summer period. The windows are insulated to maintain an ambient temperature inside yet do not ‘leak’ cold to the rest of the unit. Product is kept cool. The glass is toughened to BSI standards but does not prevent optimum visibility so consumers can easily see if their preferred drink is available and what special offers there are.

Initially there were three units commissioned but that has now been extended due to the success of the initial installations.

Matthew Simmons Marketing Director of ISD said: “Due to the quick turn around required, it was necessary to partner with a company that could deliver on time, without compromising on quality or craftsmanship. The finished product supplied by ICW fit ISD’s prerequisite design specifications – the durability and functionality were to a high standard as we had hoped.”
